from Letters of a Prussian Traveller by John Bramsen, Jens Andr Bramsen, 1814

We found Piacenza in a state of alarm and agitation, as they expected a visit from the neapolitans. All the hay and combustibles were brought out of the town, and precautions taken to resist a bombardment. We learnt that it was the determination of commandant to defend the place. We waited on him with our passports, and should he prove as brave as we found him talkative, the town will stand a good chance of not being surrendered. It is well fortified, and delightfully situated on the river Po.
